Why We Love the Idea of Podcast Community

This post is going to be a little different. We wanted to share something really important to us with you. And in a nutshell, it’s going to be focusing on the benefits of a podcast community. And it will share why we’re so passionate about this idea of podcast community.

But let me backtrack a little here…

If you’re one of our newsletter subscribers or follow us on any of our social media platforms, you’ve probably seen a few of the hints to “something big” that we’re planning on launching.

I’m still not at liberty to tell you exactly what just yet, (I know, so much mystery, right?!) but I can tell you an announcement is imminent. I can also tell you that we’re super excited about all we believe it will become!

So, why am I telling you all of this here? Well, because something else I can tell you is that it has a lot to do with the idea of podcast community.

And in the build-up to the “Big Announcement” we wanted to share what community means to us, and why we believe a podcast community is so important when it comes to podcast hosts finding longterm success in the industry.

I know, the plot thickens…

So until we officially unseal our lips, here’s a taste of what underpins what we’ve been working on…

Why Are We Passionate About Podcast Community?

1. Podcast communities provide a supportive environment for like-minded people

First and foremost, through podcast communities, podcast hosts and podcast-passionate people can find an invaluable resource that encourages collaboration, conversation, and friendship. A healthy podcast community offers a safe, supportive space for people to explore their interests with others of like mind.

Not only that, but podcast communities provide a space to give and receive constructive feedback in a friendly, supportive environment. As such, we believe podcast communities are an invaluable resource; connecting people from around the world, fostering relationships, and providing valuable advice to its participants.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

2. A podcast community provides space to learn and share your own knowledge

Here’s our next reason for our passion for building a thriving podcast community…knowledge! Knowledge is power after all! And by joining a podcast community, you gain access to a trove of knowledge, because a community also serves as a platform for learning from others.

Podcasting is really a dynamic entity. One the one hand, it’s fairly simple, right? You record thoughts and you share them with the world.

But on the other hand, finding success and longevity in the space is not all that simple. Podfade is a real thing, and, I hate to break it to ya, but podcasting is also not a “get rich quick” scheme.

We’ve seen it time and time again over the years. Podcast hosts launch their show with great excitement and gusto, only to peter out around the eighth episode (hello, podfade!) because they were unprepared for what it really takes to host a lasting, successful show.

Enter your podcast community.

A podcast community is made up of all sorts of podcast hosts at all stages of their podcasting journey. Who better to learn the ropes from than those who have maneuvered through them before you?

Through the channel of the community, podcasters can provide invaluable advice and perspectives on how to make your podcast better, the pitfalls to be aware of, and even provide tips for maximizing your time at the different stages of the podcasting process.

At the same time, your own experiences and opinions can be shared with other podcasters – if you have an idea that others in the community would benefit from, you have the amazing opportunity to share it! And podcasting as a whole benefits! That’s what we call a win-win!

The above segues nicely into our third pillar of our passion for community…

3. You can make great friends and connections with people who share your interests

group of friends from a podcast community

Not only does a podcast community allow you to learn from others, but it is the perfect space upon which you can establish lasting friendships, invaluable connections, and build organic relationships.

In general, when you encounter a group of people who passionately share common interests, it’s easy to create meaningful interpersonal connections. But something magical happens in the podcasting space, let me tell ya! The opportunities to build and grow friendships that defy distance and time zones are amazing!

Plus, networking in the podcast realm might put you in touch with like-minded creatives or enthusiastic admirers of your work that could potentially open new doors for future collaborations. Another win-win!

Bottomline, this might be one of our top reasons for advocating so strongly for a podcast community.

But it’s followed closely by our next pillar…

4. Belonging to a podcast community can help you feel less alone

Let’s be real for a minute…

Podcasting is amazing. But, it can also be a really lonely endeavor. And if you’re “running the show” all on your own, it can become a little isolating.

Especially if you’re the only one among your friends and family with a podcast.

And that’s exactly why we see the need for a healthy, buzzing podcast community. As a community allows you to interact with other passionate podcasting people from all walks of life.

In a community, you can share your thoughts and experiences with others who really “get it”. You can share your wins, of course, and you’ll have a bunch of people ready to celebrate them with you!

But you can also share your frustrations, or ask for help. It can be really debilitating if you feel like you have no one to share these with. But in a solidly-built podcast community, there will always be someone to encourage you, cheer you on, or even reach out and offer practical help along the way. That’s the magic of community!

5. A podcast community unlocks fantastic networking opportunities

I know we mentioned above that a podcast community creates opportunities for connections. But we feel that the networking door a podcast community can open to podcast hosts deserves to be a pillar in its own right.

Because if we’re all being honest, this can be one of the hardest areas to “break into” when you’re just starting out with your podcast.

You want to offer interviews with amazing guests, or you would love the opportunity to be a guest on other podcasts, but you just don’t know how to get the ball rolling…without a famous name.

We get it! And this is another reason why we believe so strongly in building a podcast community. To help you, whoever you may be, find those networking connections and guest-spot opportunities.

Right off the bat, you have direct contact with a plethora of podcast hosts – all of which could be potential guests for your podcast, or you for theirs.

Through joining a podcast community, you have this common meeting ground. And so, if someone in your community could benefit from being on your show, or vice versa – it’s far easier to make those connections!

Conclusion

There you have it, the 5 pillars which underpin our passion for building a strong podcast community. And to just spill the beans a teensy bit more, these pillars are really the foundation upon which we’ve built….this thing which we’ve built!

(Thought you had me there, didn’t you? But I’m no Tom Holland!) (Sorry, Tom!)

But in all seriousness, we really believe in the power of community. And we know that when people have the opportunity to come together, they can achieve incredible things.
